UPDATE 3/10/09: Sadly, we have outgrown this fairgrounds plus the
fairgrounds folks can't be counted to not give the established event dates to us each year without letting other horse
groups like the Washington State Horsemen and their show horse division folks "take" the dates away like they
did to this event in 2009 for their spring schooling show which the WSH could hold on any open weekend, but this one,
April 25 and April 26, 2009.
And I have contacted the President of the North East Zone of the Washington State
Horsemen and I asked him several times if "his show people and their event could please just move back to their usual weekend,
the weekend before us, or my event will probably have to be canceled." Well the WSH NEZ did not and would not move
back nor give us back the dates so the event now has to be canceled.
I am very sorry about this cancellation even though this event was always
a ton of work for me to plan and manage each year it also reached a ton of new people into horses who would eventually be
WSH members perhaps. So I can not find other dates that will work in my already busy schedule of running a dog rescue
and our farm as well as a horse club and dog club.
In other words, the Valley Parks secretary sold the dates to two different
horse events in 2009 (their mistake which they will not correct of course) so I was working trying to keep the dates even
though the same fairgrounds which was really too small then take more time to move us to a new date and location in 2010.
And I have been trying to find a new location for 2009 after my dates were sold out from under me which means a
new location and possible new date a little later in the summer so the exhibitor's horses could be more shed out
more for better event photos that exhibitors can use to promote their barns and horses.
After much looking I have not found any open dates that do not interfere with
my established dates for our dog rescue events. The homeless, rescued dogs do come first even before our own horses
even and I can not cancel any of those events that I plan each year to get our homeless dogs adopted.
So this 2009 Stallion Showcase event is sadly canceled as the WSH people would
not let us keep our dates even when asked if both them and us could go back to the schedule we had in the past with
their event before ours. Nope. Maybe next time the WSH people can choose different dates and a different
location instead of killing off another established horse events if they plan to keep their horse members?
But being forced to cancel this event is a good thing for me personally.
I am not healing up like I should from my major car wreck because I am still trying to do too much so I will take this year
off from this event. I probably should just concentrate on training and marketing my own horses for sale this year.
But I am working on this event already 2010 I and will try to have the new date and new location pinned down by this Fall.
Or this very fun, annual, free horse event is now gone. Time will tell
though there. So sorry we had to cancel such a fun event for 2009 and we shall see if something can be done for
2010. If not then it was a great event that appealled to a LOT of horse people in this region while it lasted.
I still think it is too darn bad the WSH people insisted on applying for the
same dates of our already very successful horse event even while knowing that we had the same dates and location each year
for three out of the last four years. As they say, "such is life."
And maybe in the future the area horse folks will work together instead of planning
their events on the same weekend of an already established horse event so the horses people will support everyone's events
in horses. A lot less people now own horses nowadays in this market so makes more sense to me to work together to show
horses to the public as a fun, free family activity and a great way to spend their time. But maybe that is just me.
Sincerely,
Margo Mossburg
Stallion Showcase event manager and founder
The horses are the stars are our annual, fun one day all breed "horse
open house." Please join our private treaty horse sale and stallion showcase that has fine quality horses for
sale. All horse breeds are welcome to attend including horses, minis, ponies, draft, purebreds or part-breds.
This is an open house, not a horse auction or horse show so think fun and join us to network with area horse people with 20+
barns that came in 2008. Think of this as an old fashioned horse fair to come as you are to buy, sell, see
or just play with your horses. See some of the events schedule on page 3 of this site.
